A wide production range
Lafer is known mainly for its raising and shearing machines nevertheless we have also crossed over to new finishing areas (compacting, drying, etc) with the objective of diversifying and expanding our business. The present production program includes:
raising and shearing machines
sueding machines with emery and brushes for woven and knitted fabrics
fringing and cutting machines for scarves and blankets
felt compactors for knitted fabrics in open or tubular form
Vacuum dryers for woven fabrics
Headquarters Lafer is located in Schio (province of Vicenza), in the Veneto region, 100 km west of Venice. Schio is traditionally known for the production of high quality woollen fabrics.
Innovation: the beginning In the early years, Lafer entered the raising machine market and changed the status quo by proving the superiority of double drum raising machine on many fabrics compared to single drum machines. The advantages of the double drum principle were obvious in terms of:
lesser floor space requirements
lower investment costs (if compared to two single drum machines)
easier machine management since only one machine has to be controlled instead of two.
Soon all raising machine manufacturers understood Lafer’s insight and quickly introduced similar double drum machines and at present, the double drum has become a common standard.
Automation pioneer Lafer was also the first to introduce automation on raising and shearing machines by introducing a PLC based control system which could memorise the production parameters and hence transform the raising machine in a user friendly system that could easily achieve reproduceable finishing results through automation. Soon the PLC based control system on raising and shearing machines became an industry standard.
Texen: Lafer’s new automation division Realising the importance of controlling the know-how, Lafer developed its own in-house hardware and software development division (Texen). We are convinced that this leads to an important competitive advantage over suppliers that are outsourcing this essential knowhow especially in view of continuously updating new systems, troubleshooting and eventual personalisations. Lafer machines are today equipped with more advanced state of the art control systems combining PLC and industrial computer with colour touchscreen video that has significantly raised the level of user friendliness and reliability.
