Elcu Sud Impianti was etablished in 1948 by Renzo Cerioni, in Milan (Italy). Aim of the company was to develope a new-concept stitching machine: a low-weight, handy, portable sewing machine for the textile and packaging industry. Since then machines by Elcu were introduced in major world markets and quickly succeeded in the world's textile and bagging industry.

1948,the very first machine designed by Elcu was called Mod.81.This machine was the first hand portable sewing machine patented in Italy.

1951,Elcu won the Gold Medal plus Bronze Medal Award at the prestigious "Concours des Inventiones" in Paris (France), for the innovative concept of its Sewing Machine Mod.81.
